The PIerces stayed in Oaxaca city this weekend.  Taking a breather after a long and busy week of school and other activities.

Yesterday, Saturday, we played tennis and swam at the Deportivo Oaxaca on an unusually temperate day.  Mira and Robert didn’t do too well on the doubles court against their Mexican (and, indeed aged) opponents. Then we were off to the city center for some adventure and dinner.  On the bus ride in to the city center, we saw a huge playground for the kids, which included an awesome merry-go-round.  So we jumped off for some swinging, climbing, zip-lining, and merry-go-rounding.  Then it was time to search for a children’s bookstore we had heard about. Well, we got sidetracked when we stumbled upon Krampus Baberia, combination barbershop and bar.  Robert was invited in for a few beers and a haircut. After Robert improved his appearance (and demeanor) we found Thai Lynn, a very small Thai restaurant. The owners run it only on the weekends and we were told that only one Norte Americano had ever visited before.  Good luck to the guys running Thai Lynn!

Then we had ice cream and snow cones in Lllano Park before heading home.  We never did find the bookstore.

These are photos from our visit to Oaxaca, Mexico in the summer of 2015.  We did lots of things during our 5 week visit.  We stayed at the home of Serena Makofsky and Steve Lafler while they were in California.  Rory and Cadie went to Summer Camp at the private school Liceo Federico Froebel near the house. We visited some nearby pueblas.  We joined the Deportivo Oaxaca, a tennis and swim club for the month where we took tennis lessons and swam on most days.  We went to two professional baseball games, where we saw the Oaxaca Gurerros play teams from Tiajana and Quintana Roo.  Lots of fireworks in Oaxaca.  Lots of taxi rides. We met some very nice Mexican families and one or two NorteAmericano families also down here for the summer.  We ate lots of tacos, went to the dentist, and enjoyed about one ton of ice cream.  Hope we can come back some day!

Dear Diary,

I’m writing from Oaxaca, Mexico, where I’ve been for a week with my mom and dad, and my little sister Caedryn. Today we went to breakfast and the owner of the restaurant told us that in Mexico there is no tooth fairy.  Rather, a mouse comes and takes away children’s teeth and leaves money under their pillows.  Then we went on the bus to the swimming pool and water slide.  Our bus raced another bus down a busy street (which was different than yesterday when our driver got into a fistfight with another driver).  Once we got to the swimming pool, my dad bought us cookies and we watched fireworks explode over the pool. I put on my new  shoes and took a tennis lesson.  Then we went to Tule, where we saw the “world’s largest” tree and my dad bought me a green ball to play with. I played on swings and a see-saw and, of course, a trampoline.  We had sodas, ice cream, and Mexican sweet bread.  Then we took a taxi back to the center of Oaxaca. As we were walking down a major street downtown, we saw a man spit gasoline out of his mouth making a huge fireball. Once we got home, I read Archies comics.

All in all, my life remains uneventful and without excitement or reward.

Six tennis courts, two huge pools, a cafe with wi-fi (for that thing called work), and an awesome waterslide. Plus, a summercamp starts tomorrow.  Robert thinks he may have gone to heaven.  Something bad will happen soon, he’s sure.
